Governor Sarah Palin adds freshness to McCain’s campaign
November 3, 2008 – 9:17 am
While presidential hopeful John McCain’s choice of Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate was and still is very controversial, it is clear that she brings something to his campaign that is desperately needed: votes. McCain made a bold decision by choosing a young and unknown person to be his running mate, and it has certainly paid off. Palin’s values and priorities hit the mark with tons of voters in the United States, many of whom she brought to rally around McCain. With her vivacity and tough demeanor, Palin will make a spectacular vice president.
Sarah Palin was mayor of a small town in Alaska, but now is the highly popular governor. She has executive experience, unlike McCain, Obama, and Biden. With an approval rating of over eighty percent in Alaska, it is obvious that she is working for the people’s best interests, not her own. She is a staunch conservative in most, if not all subjects. Palin is pro-life, just like John McCain. She firmly believes that abortion is wrong, which is the view of most of the country. Palin has an infant with Down’s syndrome. She and her husband were even aware that the child would be disabled, which shows her commitment to her beliefs. Women do not have the right to abort their children. Yes, the child is in the woman, but it is not part of the woman’s body, and aborting that child is wrong in both McCain and Palin’s views. Her views on marriage are just as conservative as her views on abortion. Sarah Palin believes that marriage should be kept between a man and a woman, just like it was back when the Founder Fathers were alive. To change the definition of marriage would change the fundamentals our country was founded on which could be detrimental to our country.
A topic that people in our country are very concerned about is taxes. As a conservative, Palin maintains that low taxes will help our economy flourish. Small businesses will thrive and the economy will be strong once again. Saving people’s money is as important to the Alaskan governor as it is to ordinary people who are currently suffering from the recession. She knows that raised taxes will hurt the economy, not help it. As a Republican, Palin believes that people should be responsible for themselves. Unlike Obama and Biden, Palin acknowledges the fundamentals of our country; one being that America should be a place where people can make it on their own. Taking money from the rich and giving it to the poor undermines what our country is all about. Giving tax breaks to citizens is important, but handing money to them is not right.
Palin and McCain both support the war in Iraq, something their opponents do not. The war was not going well, but since the surge, the situation has greatly improved. Our country is now so close to victory that Palin thinks that pulling out now would be disastrous. McCain and Palin both think we can win. Our country does not accept defeat, and leaving Iraq now would mean defeat. They know that our country has lost too much to give up now. Sarah Palin is a true leader, just like her running mate, John McCain. Together, they will put our country back on the right track.

As the former Op-Ed editor, I have two comments. First of all, this article is really incoherent. I feel like a second grader could have written this. Please save my section for enlightened debate and now just a repetition of juvenile talking points. Second of all, how are tax cuts and handouts different?
