Coldplay in Concert

by

On Tuesday at the Hollywood Bowl, Coldplay performed another night of their eleven month Mylo Xyloto tour. The band released the new album on October 24 of last year. Mylo Xyloto is their fifth official album, and fans agree its style is very different from those of the other albums. This particular concert featured many songs off the album as well as early hits such as “Clocks” and “Speed of Sound.”  18,000 fans attended the concert, proving the enormity of the Coldplay fan base.  Two Tesoro fans, Junior Coco Crandell and Sophomore Baylee Pfeil attended and commented on their experience. “It was the absolute perfect concert. Chris Martin is one of my favorite singers, and I almost cried when he came close to our seats on a mini stage.” says Crandell. The band closed with the single “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall,” a beautiful and powerful pop song that has a captivating story behind it. Coldplay’s success is apparent in their continuing ability to still engage fans after sixteen years together as a band.

AP US Final

by

Students in AP United States History got the opportunity this weekend to take their final on Friday, Sunday, or Monday. “I wasn’t thrilled with coming in on a Sunday to take my final, but their was no way I was going to do it on Friday, and Monday I didn’t want to take it after school,” said junior Kelsey Takahashi. With only a week to go before AP testing students had to cram this weekend to be prepared for their final. Consisting of 100 multiple choice questions, one FRQ, and one DBQ, students had a lot to prepare for. Junior Dana Buchanan said, “It wasn’t that bad it was a week before AP testing because we were already all studying for the test, so this was just a little bit of extra stress put on before the big week.” Berkenkotter and Harnett kids had a bust weekend this weekend, but it will pay off on Friday the 11th, when it comes time for AP testing.

Taking a Chance

by

During spring break Junior Haille Thomas decided to attempt to make a dream come true. One of her favorite rappers and “love interest,” Diggy Simmons, was having a signing at the FYE at Montebello mall. Haille saw it as an opportunity to ask him to the upcoming prom. “Haille can be pretty fearless at times, especially if it is something she really wants,” said Junior Alex Elliott.

“The worst he can say is no. It is a bit unrealistic, but it’s worth a try,” said Thomas before going in. She sat outside FYE with around fifty other ecstatic fans for two hours and waited for Diggy to arrive. Once he came into sight, his fans turned the heads of the mall goers within ear sight as their screams echoed throughout the mall. Anticipation continued to build up as the line inched closer to the door. Finally, it was Haille’s turn. She gripped her poster tight in her hands and walked to the table where he was sitting. He greeted her and she opened her poster. Once she did she closed her eyes, hiding behind it, holding her breath as his crew smiled in shock and adoration. He asked her what day it was as he signed her CD and apologized saying he was unsure if he would be local that day. She said OK and he reached across the table to give her a hug. On her way out, she was stopped by his crew who took a handful of pictures of her with her poster. “Well, he didn’t say no,” Thomas said.

Exploring Culture

by

On Apr. 5, Spanish club met in Mrs. Manzotti’s room. At the beginning of the year, the club raised money by selling coffee at Back to School Night. This money was used to purchase Mexican food for club meetings so the members could become more accustomed to the Spanish culture. Other things the club does include discussing Spanish and watching Spanish videos.  Junior Davis Popovich, this year’s Spanish Club President, said, “I took on running this club this year because I wanted to expose more Spanish students to its Spain’s wonderful culture.” On Thursday’s meeting, some of the members ate chips with salsa and talked about plans for future club meetings. Junior Ryan Kelleher said, “I think this club can get really big and if it does we can start to plan a group trip to San Juan Capistrano or even Olvera Street. I’m excited.”

Track Meet vs. Laguna Hills

by

In the second league meet of the season, both the boys and girls track teams were doing well. The boys’ Frosh team is still undefeated and Varsity has the number two runner in the state, junior Hunter Simmons.

During the Frosh distance one mile race, Tesoro clutched the top three spots with freshman Nic Moore coming in first. Also the Varsity relay team with junior Syd Reynolds,  senior Derek Barnes, sophomore Tre Mitchell, and junior Hunter Simmons won a close 4×100 race with Simmons running the last leg to secure the win.

The girls distance team has strong runners, especially in the mile with Erica Liem [10] and Stephanie Lapidus [11] scoring first and second against Laguna Hills. “My goal is to PR like everyone else but when I run the mile I don’t pay attention to anyone around me and I just focus on my own race to do my personal best but I also strive to score for my team.” said sophomore Erica Liem.

Along with the athletes who ran, there are the athletes who jumped that contributed to the scores against Laguna. The jumping athletes are important to the scoring of a dual meet because their points count and the points they score could potentially make or break a team at the meet. “I high jump, long jump, triple jump, and pole vault. I love jumping because I just don’t like running but I like being a part the team, and by jumping, I know that I am contributing to the team.” said sophomore Kirby Ruback.

With the boys and girls winning in all events, Laguna Hills was swept.
