JV Lacrosse Tournament

by

Surprising many with their rapidly developing skills, the JV girls lacrosse are making a definite impression in southern Orange County. In the annual Sticks and Stones tournament, the Tesoro girls brought up the intensity in their game against Corona Del Mar High School but fell short 2-4. They returned with a win of 6-2 against El Toro, and ended the tournament with a shut out against the renowned Mater Dei. The wins were a true success, but the memories of the event proved just as wonderful. Sophomore Faith Duarte said “the best part of the tournament was definitely playing hard and growing together as a team. I thought it was going to be pretty exhausting but there was never a dull moment; the spirits were high and everyone was so supportive and positive. Overall it was an awesome experience and I would for sure do again!”

Most importantly, the strong bonds played a huge role in their success. Sophomore Leah Jelaco said, “the whole team worked really hard and everyone contributed to the wins and the scores really showed how far we have all come to work together.”

The girls swim coach also encourages the girls sitting down, waiting for their turn to swim, to cheer for their teammate swimming down the lane because “it makes a big difference”. Freshman Desiree Fisk said “We usually tap each other on the face and jump around right before our race so it gets our adrenaline going. It’s kinda funny”.

Freshman, Rebecca Lightman, does the breast stroke in the 200 medley placing second with a time of 2:46.79.

Girls’ Lacrosse Game vs CDM

by

On Tuesday March 6, Girls Varsity Lacrosse played against Corona Del Mar High School. With bright and colorful ribbons wrapped around every girl’s ponytail, and warm up music played to pump up the girls, the varsity team was ready to take on a top ten team.

Clear skies and a bright and shining sun, gave way to a seemingly physically enduring match. The girls started the game off strong, puzzling the opponents with skills that nobody in the league had expected with only five returning players. It was a tough game and the girls fell short 9-13 but they sure left everyone in shock to have taken on a team like Corona Del Mar with such flare. “I am really proud of my girls and how far we have come, I didn’t expect us to win any of our games, and even though we didn’t win this particular game, I know that we are going to do great against other teams” exclaimed junior attack man Emily Bender.

Girls’ Lacrosse

by

Girls’ lacrosse had their first game of the season in Tustin against Foothill High School. Both JV and Varsity gave their best efforts, but fell short in the end. However, Friday’s game indicated a bright future for many girls who began playing lacrosse this season, but performed with skills beyond expectation. ”Even though we lost, I still had a ton of fun and learned a lot about lacrosse. It was so much fun to have secret sisters and bond with my teammates on the bus. I can’t wait for the rest of season!” said sophomore Paris Frattone. Sophomore goalie Emily Jurgensen declared, “Win or lose, our lacrosse team played as a whole. We never let the score affect how we played. Our level of intensity and dedication stayed high all game long. At the end of the day although we lost, the unity of our team made it feel like a win.” These group of “laxers” all agree that they have a wonderful season to look forward to.

Girls’ Water Polo Senior Night

by

Varsity huddles up to encourage one another before their last game of the season.

During the last game of the season, girls’ varsity water polo players cheered on their only senior varsity member at their annual senior night. As a time-honored tradition, the varsity seniors were congratulated for their sportsmanship and teamwork. This year, Meghan Rafael was the only senior on varsity and was honored by coaches, parents, and teammates before the last home game begun. “What made Senior Night so special was the poster all the girls signed for me. Their quotes made me feel super loved and I will truly miss them all! Water polo has been such a great experience and I’m so sad to see it end.” said Rafael.

Following senior night we played in one of the best games of the year. Water polo is a game of determination, hard-work, and teamwork; three perks that our Lady Titans proved to be vital in the game against the Laguna Hills Hawks. Throughout the entire game, Goalie sophomore Amy Jenson put the team on her back and dominated the cage. Sophomore Emma Peterson scored three goals against the Hawks, and all the girls did a tremendous job by working together. Sadly, the Hawks won in a very close game of 10 to 14. We wrapped up the season last night and we will get them during swim season!
