Racing, Raining, and Raising Money for Tesoro
Early on Sunday morning, November 6, 2011, Tesoro studenst arrived at Saddleback College to run and volunteer at the Education for the Children Family 5K Fun Run. Through EFC $77,000 was granted to the teachers of Tesoro and Tesoro’s feeder schools, including Arroyo Vista, Las Flores, Tijeras Creek, and Wagon Wheel. With over 300 runners, the local schools’ community was able to support the teachers, staff, and the benefits that the students gain from theEFCnon-profit organization. Despite heavy rains during the middle of the race, students, teachers, and parents remained optimistic about the day. “Although it rained at the end, theEFC5K was still a huge success and tons of fun,” Sophomore Trevor Hansen explains. While some of Tesoro’s cross-country runners ran the race, others worked the runner check-in, food and water distribution, and even helped the younger kids warm up for their one-mile race. Cheer and song leaders lined the side of the track and encouraged runners to finish the race. “It is such a great feeling to look out at the starting line and seeing students, parents, teachers, and principals all coming together for such a great cause. I’m looking forward to a sun-soaked 2012 fun-run,” EFC board member Karen Du Mont says.
