Rain and no Gain

by

The cancellation of the San Clemente invitational after Saturday’s rainfall was greeted by mixed feelings. For some it came with a feeling of sadness and regret.  ”I was actually really excited to run,” said sophomore Stephani Hendrix, “It would have been a cool temperature and all the races I were doing that day were pretty fun! Plus, San Clemente has a nice track.”

For others, the cancellation of the meet was greeted with a sigh of relief. “It’s not that I didn’t want to run, it’s just that I had so many things going on that day!” said sophomore Fabiola Lopez. “I had the track meet and in between my races, I had to go to a soccer game! All on top of that, I had a TON of homework! In the end, I ended up without track or soccer, so that was no fun,” said Lopez.

The San Clemente invitational was rescheduled for a later date, however, this date conflicts with another invitational that the track team has scheduled. “The Trabuco Hills invitational happens to fall on the same day that the rescheduled San Clemente meet does, so in the end I think that the team will just end up sending athletes to both meets, even though Trabuco is more important,” said sophomore Riley Ormiston.

Girls’ Lacrosse Game vs CDM

by

On Tuesday March 6, Girls Varsity Lacrosse played against Corona Del Mar High School. With bright and colorful ribbons wrapped around every girl’s ponytail, and warm up music played to pump up the girls, the varsity team was ready to take on a top ten team.

Clear skies and a bright and shining sun, gave way to a seemingly physically enduring match. The girls started the game off strong, puzzling the opponents with skills that nobody in the league had expected with only five returning players. It was a tough game and the girls fell short 9-13 but they sure left everyone in shock to have taken on a team like Corona Del Mar with such flare. “I am really proud of my girls and how far we have come, I didn’t expect us to win any of our games, and even though we didn’t win this particular game, I know that we are going to do great against other teams” exclaimed junior attack man Emily Bender.

Boys’ Volleyball Game

by

On Thursday, March 13, Tesoro volleyball went face to face with Woodbridge. A long and shaky match was endured by both sides as points kept going back and forth. However, Tesoro pulled through from a few skillful breaks. “The little things really mattered. Each hit counted more and more.” said sophomore Ryan Rozema. The hard hitting battle finally ended, with Tesoro taking the victory. “We didn’t play our best, but we gave it just enough to win this time. That won’t be good enough later though.” said sophomore Ricky Soto. Tesoro pulled through with another victory and even though the game was a little shaky, a win is still a win.

Varsity Baseball Season

by

Varsity Baseball won 2-1 against their first league competitor and their rival team, Capistrano Valley High School.  Although a close game, the Titans out-played their opponent.  There were several memorable plays including senior Brandon VerWayne’s hit into center field, which enabled senior Kevin Ko to score.  After several months of practicing, and playing in pre-league games, the boys were determined to kick off the league season with a win.  After such a hard game, junior Nick Leone said, “I love the taste of dirt, and I love the taste of grass.”  The boys set their standard for the rest of the league season with this first win.

Track Pasta Party

by

Streaming towards tables that have every inch covered by deliciously home-made foods, the Track and Field athletes headed to indulge in their pasta party after having taken the team photo on Friday. “Pasta parties are the best, because even the people not racing tomorrow get to carb load as much as they want,” said freshman Kaylee Martin. Typically, the feast consists primarily of foods filled with carbohydrates in order to prepare the athletes for racing the next day by giving them energy. Such delicacies included various types of pasta, salad, garlic bread, and fruits. Kids are allowed to take as much as they need to get enough usable energy in their system: “I needed two plates for all the food I eat,” explained junior Brad Park “I have one for my main course and another for dessert.” Coach Miranda remains strict on his policy of not eating on the track, so most kids sat around with their fellow runners on the grass or headed to their cars to enjoy the meal. “I don’t get to eat this much at home. I could totally get used to this. I’m not even sure I can eat all of this, but I sure am going to try!” said freshman Bryan Anno, who was treated to his first ever pasta party.
