AP US Final

by

Students in AP United States History got the opportunity this weekend to take their final on Friday, Sunday, or Monday. “I wasn’t thrilled with coming in on a Sunday to take my final, but their was no way I was going to do it on Friday, and Monday I didn’t want to take it after school,” said junior Kelsey Takahashi. With only a week to go before AP testing students had to cram this weekend to be prepared for their final. Consisting of 100 multiple choice questions, one FRQ, and one DBQ, students had a lot to prepare for. Junior Dana Buchanan said, “It wasn’t that bad it was a week before AP testing because we were already all studying for the test, so this was just a little bit of extra stress put on before the big week.” Berkenkotter and Harnett kids had a bust weekend this weekend, but it will pay off on Friday the 11th, when it comes time for AP testing.

America’s Next Top Model: British Invasion

by

The series’ poster for season 18, including the British models.

American model, Simone was eliminated from the show last week because of her many

This season on “America’s Next Top Model” has a brand new twist to it. On the show’s eighteenth season, a “British invasion” occurred. Therefore, the season is called “America’s Next Top Model: British Invasion”. For the first time ever, there is a variety of American and British models competing. “I was so surprised when I started watching the season. I have watched this show for a long time. I had no idea there were going to be British girls competing  this season. I think it makes the show much more interesting,” said sophomore Sadi Hawkins. However, the British models have a major advantage because these girls have all competed on “Britain’s Next Top Model” in the past, giving them much more experience. The American models have never competed on the show, and have little or no experience modeling. All season long, the show has been focusing on the Americans versus the British and there are only two American girls remaining. There are still three British girls. Tune in to see if one of the British models wins it all and completely invades “America’s Next Top Model.”

Another Shocking Week on American Idol

by

This week on American Idol, fans of the show were completely shocked by the results. One of the fan favorites, Colton Dixon, was sent home. “I couldn’t believe it because I was so shocked. He was the best singer left on the show and has been my favorite from the beginning. He has so much more talent than the other contestants.

Colton goes down on his knees for his goodbye song after his shocking elimination.

I am still trying to make sense of it,” said sophomore Sadi Hawkins. Dixon is known for singing mainly rock music.  After trying out last season and not making it, Colton did not plan on auditioning again. He came to the auditions to support his sister. Eventually, the judges convinced Dixon to try out. Both of the Dixon siblings received a golden ticket. However, Dixon’s sister was eliminated much earlier in the competition. Dixon is known for having very entertaining performances to accompany his talented voice.

Colton Dixon powerfully sings "Everything" by Lifehouse, which turns out to be a fan favorite.

Although last week was not Dixon’s best performance, fans still could not believe he was sent home. Dixon was one of the two contestants remaining that had never been in the bottom three. That is another reason why the results were so surprising. Hopefully, Dixon has many more years of entertaining performances ahead of him.

Sundays with Harnett

by

For all of the students who think one week at school is not enough, they are in luck, Mr. Harnett has generously been offering Sunday afternoon study sessions. In preparation for the upcoming AP United States History exam on May 11, students have been trying to get as much information in their brains as they can. Junior Dana Buchanan said, “I really would like to spend my Sundays at home, but going to these study sessions is for the best, plus who doesn’t want to hang out with Harnett.” Mr. Harnett has been having study sessions about twice a week for the past two months getting his students ready for the upcoming tests. “I usually have so much homework that I don’t have time to do anything else, but I try to make time for Harnett, the review classes are really helpful and makes all the information fresh in my mind.” said Junior Sabrina Miller. The students who attend the reviews, get a bunch of facts from the Colonial time period to The Cold War fresh in their minds for the upcoming AP tests.

Exploring Culture

by

On Apr. 5, Spanish club met in Mrs. Manzotti’s room. At the beginning of the year, the club raised money by selling coffee at Back to School Night. This money was used to purchase Mexican food for club meetings so the members could become more accustomed to the Spanish culture. Other things the club does include discussing Spanish and watching Spanish videos.  Junior Davis Popovich, this year’s Spanish Club President, said, “I took on running this club this year because I wanted to expose more Spanish students to its Spain’s wonderful culture.” On Thursday’s meeting, some of the members ate chips with salsa and talked about plans for future club meetings. Junior Ryan Kelleher said, “I think this club can get really big and if it does we can start to plan a group trip to San Juan Capistrano or even Olvera Street. I’m excited.”
