The Poster War has Begun

by

Nearly all corners and cracks are covered up by the hundreds of posters for campaign week, transforming the Tesoro campus into a battlefield for the poster war of the century. After a long weekend of decorating and designing shirts and flyers, the candidates woke up early Monday morning in order to claim the most valuable spots, the most renowned being under the Tesoro marquis.  Junior Denae Luce said “The catch is that tomorrow morning at 5 am will basically be like the hunger games. Wild. Crazy. Fight for life. Maybe not fight for life.  But poster spots are first come first serve, and the good spots can help win votes.”

The Legend of Kora

by

Taking place seven decades after “Avatar: The Last Airbender” left off, “The Legend of Kora” shows the story of the new Avatar, a headstrong waterbender.  In “The Last Airbender,” the story was driven by Aang’s need to master the four elements so that he could defeat the evil Fire Lord.  When “The Legend of Kora” began, seventeen-year-old Kora had already mastered water, earth, and fire and was traveling to Capitol City to learn air bending.

“Something that took a little getting used to was that all of the benders live together without a problem,” explained sophomore Sydney Viet.  “In ‘The Last Airbender,’ nobody really liked most of the firebenders because they were trying to rule the world.  Now, everyone is friends with everyone else, except for the Equalists.  It’s really cool.”  The Equalists are a group of non-benders who are led by a masked man seeking to end bending forever.  “I’m really excited for where the show is going,” said sophomore Kylee Webster.  “Kora is a lot different than Aang, and I can’t wait to see how she handles the problems in the city.”

Above the Alarm

by

Confused and interrupted, thousands of Tesoro students and teachers rushed to the football field after having heard the Fire Alarm during fifth period on Friday. While the majority of teachers resort to postponing tests and halting lectures, one class alone stands apart in the crowd. The legendary teacher of the ill-fated AP European History students, Mrs. Thompson, resumed her lecture once settled on the field. The class was studying the period following World War II: a chapter of paramount importance in the curriculum. “I just- I couldn’t afford to waste even a minute with these guys. They have their final and the AP test just around the corner, and they still have a bit to go,” said a determined and dedicated Mrs. Thompson. The students put in just as much effort in learning as the teacher put into teaching despite the commotion around them. “If Mrs. Thompson hadn’t continued teaching us, we would have had to stay even after the bell, which would take away time from going home and studying, so she really helped,” says sophomore Nicholas Chen.  With final exams looming imminently, students appreciate their teacher more than ever. Sophomore Allie Carter says, “If it wasn’t for how much dedication she puts into teaching us, I wouldn’t stand a chance on the AP test. I’m still scared, but at least now I’ll go in giving it everything that she’s given us- which is a whole lot.”

The Voice Review

by

Season two has almost come and past, but now it is time for the semifinalists to take the stage. The coaches on this show have difficult decisions to make because to even be invited to this show, a singer has to have lots of talent already.

Next week Team Cee Lo Green, Team Adam Levine, Team Christina Aguilera, and Team Blake Shelton battle it to see whose team will come out on top. The winner of the voice gets a recording contract, and the coach gets praise and bragging rights for the next season, as Adam Levine had this year, having the season one winner last year, giving him leverage over the other coaches for the best singers this season.

The four finalists are Tony Lucca for Team Adam, Chris Mann for Team Christina, Jermaine Paul for Team Blake, and Juliette Simms for team Cee Lo.

With all the singers having their own twists on songs and different styles, America has variety to choose from, so something for everyone and the race to be best is up for grabs.

Coldplay in Concert

by

On Tuesday at the Hollywood Bowl, Coldplay performed another night of their eleven month Mylo Xyloto tour. The band released the new album on October 24 of last year. Mylo Xyloto is their fifth official album, and fans agree its style is very different from those of the other albums. This particular concert featured many songs off the album as well as early hits such as “Clocks” and “Speed of Sound.”  18,000 fans attended the concert, proving the enormity of the Coldplay fan base.  Two Tesoro fans, Junior Coco Crandell and Sophomore Baylee Pfeil attended and commented on their experience. “It was the absolute perfect concert. Chris Martin is one of my favorite singers, and I almost cried when he came close to our seats on a mini stage.” says Crandell. The band closed with the single “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall,” a beautiful and powerful pop song that has a captivating story behind it. Coldplay’s success is apparent in their continuing ability to still engage fans after sixteen years together as a band.
