Varsity Baseball Season

by

Varsity Baseball won 2-1 against their first league competitor and their rival team, Capistrano Valley High School.  Although a close game, the Titans out-played their opponent.  There were several memorable plays including senior Brandon VerWayne’s hit into center field, which enabled senior Kevin Ko to score.  After several months of practicing, and playing in pre-league games, the boys were determined to kick off the league season with a win.  After such a hard game, junior Nick Leone said, “I love the taste of dirt, and I love the taste of grass.”  The boys set their standard for the rest of the league season with this first win.

Catholics Begin Lent

by

On Wednesday Feb 22, the Catholic tradition of Lent began.  After gorging themselves on sugary treats and last-minute pleasures during Fat Tuesday (also known as Mardi Gras), Catholic students mentally prepared for the long forty days to come.  Ash Wednesday marked the season of simplicity and moderation.  Lent is a time for Catholics to reflect on the meaning of Easter by giving up something that is difficult for them to live without.  Several of Tesoro’s Catholics relinquished the traditional junk foods and candies, while others took a more in depth approach.  “It is always hard giving something up, but it is for the right reason,” said sophomore Christina Du Mont.  The first few days of lent always prove to be the hardest as the tastes of sugary delights and thirst-quenching sodas are still freshly in mind after the recent Fat Tuesday.  The Catholics must find their inner strength to resist the everyday temptations of their guilty pleasures, as lent has just begun.

Varsity Baseball Wins

by

Junior Brad Justl prepares for a quick and sneaky sprint to steal third base.

On Saturday March 3rd Varsity Baseball had a 2-1 win against Esperanza High School.  Tied 1-1 until the 9th inning, the Titans went into extra innings and finally claimed victory in the 10th inning.  After playing for close to three hours, the team got the win they deserved.  “It was one of our best games of the season.  You can’t ask for more than to pour your heart out on the field for the whole game and the feeling of walking away with that well earned win and a smile on your face.  It just gets you pumped for more of those games to come.” Explains senior infielder Riley Greenlee.  Not only was the heat between the two teams for the victory but also there was 85-degree heat during the game.  Cloudless skies, a light breeze, and the warm burn of sun on one’s shoulders were the simple reminders that baseball season had begun.
