Anaheim Welcomes “Nevershoutnever” for Two Sold Out Nights

by

Lead singer Christofer Drew leads the crowd through a set of acoustic songs chosen by the audience members.

Juniors Jenn Gethers and Lauren Sykes watch the concert at Chain Reaction from their spots in the second row.

Last weekend, alternative band “Nevershoutnever” performed in Anaheim at Chain Reaction at two sold out shows.  Before the band performed, opening acts “Kurt Travis” and “Koji” played a set of about eight songs each.  Local acts “Tiffany Alvord” and “Bear Cat” also each performed a set of songs after winning a contest offered by the headlining band, “Nevershoutnever”, that allowed fans to vote on bands from the surrounding area that would serve as the opening acts for the shows. “I went to the show on Friday for my friend Danielle’s 18th birthday and I had a blast!” said Senior Zoe Miles. “It was such a fun way to celebrate her birthday and one of our favorite bands on the same night.” After two hours of opening bands, “Nevershoutnever” performed a one hour set that included songs from their first singles to their latest release “Time Travel”.  “This was my second time seeing ‘Nevershoutnever’ and I absolutely loved it,” said Senior Lawren Jaben. “Christofer Drew sounds almost better when he is performing live and I love his positive energy when he is on stage.” With fans playing and singing with the band and songs chosen by the audience, Saturday night’s show was very different from the night before.  Instead of following a set of songs, the lead singer Christofer Drew decided to ask the fans at the show to request songs that they wanted to hear. The band even allowed aspiring musicians in the crowd to come up to the stage and play with him during two of the songs where one fan played the guitar during “What is Love?” and the other got to sing a duet with Drew on “Bigcitydreams”. “I liked the feeling of the concert on Saturday,” said Junior Jenn Gethers. “The concert was very carefree and it was fun to have the audience choose the songs since they chose many of my favorites!” It was evident from the large lines of people waiting outside the venue and the loud screaming throughout the show , “Nevershoutnever’s” performances at Chain Reaction were clearly a hit.

The Poster War has Begun

by

Nearly all corners and cracks are covered up by the hundreds of posters for campaign week, transforming the Tesoro campus into a battlefield for the poster war of the century. After a long weekend of decorating and designing shirts and flyers, the candidates woke up early Monday morning in order to claim the most valuable spots, the most renowned being under the Tesoro marquis.  Junior Denae Luce said “The catch is that tomorrow morning at 5 am will basically be like the hunger games. Wild. Crazy. Fight for life. Maybe not fight for life.  But poster spots are first come first serve, and the good spots can help win votes.”

AP Euro Study Session

by

At tutorial on Friday, sophomore Josh Keilty messes around with the Hunger Games book and does the three finger salute that Katniss is famous for.

On Friday at tutorial in room 409, several sophomores realized that the AP test and the final for AP Euro were just around the corner. “It came up on me so fast,” said sophomore Stephani Hendirx, “so my friends who were in that tutorial wanted to get together and do a study group. I invited them over to my house on Sunday.”  Josh Keilty, Shawna Strecker, Brandon Mayo, Kate Custer,  and Pauline Kim packed up their books in their bags and went to Hendrix’s house for 5 hours on Sunday shortly after noon. After reviewing some FRQ topics and going through the earlier chapters of the books, the dedicated students called in for pizza. “We were just super hungry because we had worked so hard and we needed some brain food, so we thought: why not pizza?” said Mayo.  After the pizza had arrived the students took a short break before continuing to hit the books. The last hour consisted of verbal quizzing of each student on a variety of topics and on small details that the AP exam will not omit. “They could ask us anything from, ‘What is the Napoleonic code?’ to ‘What was the causes that were believed to cause the Black Death in the fourteenth century?’ and it is just a lot of history to comprehend.  I don’t know what will happen on this test,” said Kim. After the quizzing, each student took their own way home and felt that they had benefitted from the difficult and trying study session that they had just attended.

Are You My Type?

by

ASB students wait for students to come sign in for their appointments. As students donated blood on April 25, they recieved a shirt, that said “Are you my type?” On the back, it had a list of all the types of the blood. The shirt was intended to be a humorous end to the spring blood drive. Many argue that donating blood is a good thing for your body because your body needs to replenish its blood. So whether they wanted to give blood for their own health or just for the thought of saving three people’s life, there were people lining up to donate blood. The week before the Blood Drive, people were lining up at the ASB office to make their appointments. The appointment times filled up so fast that people who went to sign up the day before were put on a waiting list. “I was so happy that I was able to give blood becuase I wasn’t able to donate blood at the Winter Blood Drive,” said senior Jenna Ward. As the people signed in they had to read a packet of precautions and guidelines before they were able to board the Blood Mobile to donate. Then students had to wait for a while until their number was called. “I was getting nervous because I had to wait so long,” said junior Ariel Kirkendale. Once on the blood mobile, students had to answer a few questions, and then finally they were able to start giving blood. After the blood was drawn students recieved a cup of Golden Spoon, to keep their spirits up and replenish lost sugar.

Senior Jenna Ward gets comfortable as she waits for her time to donate.
